El Cayado means shepherds crook, or the long hooked staff that a shepherd uses to coral his sheep. The region of Bierzo lies within the pilgrimage path from northern Europe to the famous Galician town of Santiago de Campostela. Within Bierzo is the famous Cruz de Fero, or “Iron Cross” where people on pilgrimages to Santiago have placed stones from their home towns for so many years that a mound has formed at the base of the cross.
Morello cherry red with violet hints in the glass. On the nose, El Cayado has a medium-high intensity, and the varietal aromas of red fruits predominate with a subtle hint of the toasting of wood. Elegant on the palate and balanced in the mouth.
